Mr. Mercedes

Author: Stephen King

Release Date: June 2014

I enjoyed this book for what it was, a pretty standard detective story that was a quick read with some fun moments scattered throughout. Besides “The Eyes of the Dragon” I haven’t read a lot of non-horror Stephen King. This book read more like Michael Connelly or Dean Koontz to me but still had plenty of character anecdotes and twists that are King standard issue. The bad guy reminded me a bit too much of the bully from “It” and there was even a bit about poisoning a dog that felt lifted from that book. The biggest negatives were too many coincidences, particularly during the climax in a crowded area.
